Louisiana’s Children’s
Health Insurance Program, also known as LaCHIP, is enrolling
children up to the age of 19 years old in
the program for free healthcare. This program is offered for
children of working families and families not on welfare
programs.
In central Louisiana, there is an effort to find these children
to offer coverage too and since school is starting soon, that is a
great place to start. Volunteers from the office of Lester
Turner, state Department of Health and Hospitals LaCHIP Region 6
assistant outreach coordinator, have gone out to malls, schools, and
outreach programs to spread the word about this new plan which could
benefit thousands of children in Louisiana.
More than half a million children are enrolled in LaCHIP and the
number could go to a staggering 75,000 more children to be added to
the program.
A family of four - two parents and two children - with a gross
annual income of $37,700 is eligible
